Using Motor CAD to Model Nissan Leaf
MDL have developed a tutorial to demonstrate the use of Motor-CAD and Motor-LAB to model the electromagnetic and thermal performance of the Nissan LEAF electric traction motor. Data to set up the model was obtained using publicly available information, such as the many publications produced by the Oak Ridge National Labs. MDL software is used to predict the torque-speed characteristics, efficiency map and transient thermal analysis with the US06 drive cycle. Validation of the models is performed using measured efficiency maps and thermal transient data available in the publications on the internet. The full analysis can be performed in just a few minutes as both Motor-CAD and Motor-LAB are optimized to give fast and accurate calculations.
Business Success for MDL
MDL has been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories in the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2015 – International Trade & Export and Best Small Business. The winners will be announced at the Awards Dinner on 26 June 2015.
Dave Staton delivered a tutorial on Thermal Analysis of Electric Motors with Complex Duty Cycles at IEMDC Conference in Idaho on 10 May 2015. He then moved on to EMCW Expo, Milwaukee (13 – 15 May 2015) where he gave presentations & training with Mircea Popescu and Prof Dan Ionel. These were very well attended.
Mircea Popescu gave a lecture on 29 May 2015 at the 16th European PhD School: Power Electronics, Electrical Machines, Energy Control & Power Systems at Angevin Castle, Gaeta, Italy. The session was on Thermal Analysis of Electric Machines and was well attended.
On 27 May 2015 James Goss delivered a seminar on the Design of Electric Machines at University of L’Aquilla, Italy.
