We are delighted to announce that the Electric Drive Tail Rotor Team—comprised of engineers from Leonardo Helicopters, the University of Bristol and our motor design specialists from Motor Design Ltd—was awarded a Team Bronze Medal at the 2018 Royal Aeronautical Society awards ceremony in November.

The medal was awarded for the ‘successful demonstration of flight-ready hardware for the implementation of an electrically-driven tail rotor sized for the AW139 helicopter’ (RAeS Honours, Medals & Awards brochure – click here to view) and MDL was involved in the electric motor design.

More information about the awards and the project can be found on the Royal Aeronautical Society’s website.
