Question and Answer Sessions

There will be two, hour-long interactive webinars each day to give participants the opportunity to ask questions and watch software demonstrations. One session is aimed at participants joining us from Europe and South Asia, and the other is aimed at participants joining from North America.

Q&A timings for Europe & South Asia
10:00−11:00 GMT (11:00−12:00 CET / 15:30−16:30 IST)
Q&A timings for North America
17:00−18:00 GMT (12:00−13:00 EST / 09:00−10:00 PST)

Q&A Session Topics

Each daily webinar will focus on a specific aspect of electric motor design:

  • Monday 8th November: Introduction & General Q&A
  • Tuesday 9th November: Electromagnetic analysis, efficiency maps and drive cycles for synchronous machines
  • Wednesday 10th November: Thermal analysis
  • Thursday 11th November: Electromagnetic analysis, efficiency maps and drive cycles for asynchronous machines
  • Friday 12th November: Mechanical analysis and links to other software

How to join the Q&A

We use the webinar platform ‘GoToWebinar’ to carry out our live Q&A sessions. Once you gain access to the training portal, you will find instructions on how to join the daily live session. Questions can be submitted to our motor design specialists via the ‘chat’ feature in GoToWebinar and we will answer as many questions as possible during the session.

How to apply

This event has now finished – thank you to everyone who took part.

What should I expect from this course?

This is a self-paced training course that enables motor designers to work through a series of video tutorials at their own pace. Participants will receive a free trial of Motor-CAD software for the duration of the course, access to a range of video tutorials and will be able to join daily, live question and answer sessions with Motor-CAD experts.

How does the course work?

We use the online training platform, Thinkific, to run our online courses. Once we have confirmed your participation on the course, we will create you an account using your ‘First Name’, ‘Last Name’ and ‘Email Address’ provided. To find out how Thinkific process personal data, please see their Privacy Policy.

In the days prior to the course start date, you will receive an email from Thinkific giving you access to your account and to our training portal. If you requested a trial Motor-CAD licence, you will also gain access to a section of the training portal where you will find instructions on how to download and install Motor-CAD software.

How do I join the live question and answer sessions?

We use the webinar platform ‘GoToWebinar’ to carry out our live Q&A sessions. Once you gain access to the training portal, you will find instructions on how to join the daily live session. Questions can be submitted to our motor design specialists via the ‘chat’ feature in GoToWebinar and we will answer as many questions as possible during the session.

About the course

This self-paced course uses short video tutorials and training materials to guide participants through the modelling and design of three motor types: BPM machines, inverter-fed IM and direct online IM—along with new additional content for switched reluctance machines, synchronous reluctance machines, synchronous wound field generators, BPM outer rotor machines and single phase induction machines.

Throughout the week of the 8th – 12th November, participants will be able to join daily, live question and answer sessions with Motor-CAD experts.

What should I expect from this course?
  • This is a free-to-attend, self-paced training course that gives participants access to a series of training materials, which they can work through at their own pace.
  • Participants who do not already have access to Motor-CAD software will receive a free trial that lasts for the duration of the course.
  • Have a question while working through the training materials? Each day we will run a live question and answer session focused on a specific aspect of electric motor design. Join the webinars to get answers to your questions and see live software demonstrations from our Motor-CAD experts.
What will you learn?

Work through short video tutorials for different motor types and applications, and learn how to calculate the electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical behaviour of your designs. At the end of the course, participants will be able to competently drive Motor-CAD and start to experiment with their own designs and design variations. Attendees will have access to all four course modules, covering the modelling and design of BPM machines, inverter-fed IM, direct online IM and other machine types.

Who should take part?

Engineers who wish to learn how to use Motor-CAD software to design, analyse and optimise electric machines. If you do not already have Motor-CAD software, we will provide you with a free Motor-CAD licence for the duration of the training course.
