Motor-CAD North America User Conference

The 2019 Motor-CAD North America User Conference will take place on October 16-17 at the Detroit Metro Airport Marriott (Detroit, MI). The two-day event will bring together engineers and researchers working on E-Machine design to learn about technological developments, share best practice and discuss their challenges and approaches.

Join us for advanced modelling workshops and technical presentations from world-leading experts in electric motor design, including design engineers from General Motors, Hitachi America, American Axle & Manufacturing, the Illinois Institute of Technology and Harley-Davidson.

  • Day 1 – Technical presentations from world-leading experts in electric motor design.
  • Day 2 – Advanced motor design modelling workshops.

What is Motor-CAD? Find out at our free pre-conference workshop

Not a Motor-CAD user but interested in learning how simulation tools can help you in your electric motor designs? We will be running a free, hands-on Motor-CAD workshop on October 15, ahead of the main conference. Join us to work through a live modelling example and learn how to calculate electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical behaviour—including generating outputs such as efficiency maps—and perform analysis over duty cycles. Advanced Motor Design Modelling Workshops – Day 2, October 17

Our motor design specialists will be delivering four advanced modelling workshops on Day 2 of the conference.

Day 2 Workshops

Latest features in Motor-CAD
This workshop will demonstrate the latest features developed in Motor-CAD. The features will be demonstrated live with the opportunity for attendees to try these features during the workshop.

Advanced Electromagnetics in Motor-CAD
This workshop will look into several complex electromagnetic phenomena and their effects, using Motor-CAD. For example, losses in laminated electric steels, solid electrical conducting regions such as magnets, windings, airgap banding/sleeves and analysing irreversible demagnetisation of permanent magnets. Some specific examples will be run live which attendees can try during the workshop.

Electric Machine Model Calibration
This workshop will take attendees through a calibration example, demonstrating how to systematically match an electromagnetic and thermal model to a set of test data using the manufacturing factors in Motor-CAD.

Optimisation using Motor-CAD
This workshop will show how Motor-CAD can be coupled with OptiSLang to provide a multi-physics, multi-objective optimisation procedure. An example is given where an electric vehicle motor is optimised to give maximum drive cycle efficiency and minimum cost, while achieving a specified peak and continuous torque/speed requirement.
