Maximising E-Machine Efficiency with Hairpin Windings

By Dr. Shaoshen Xue, Senior Research Engineer

Performance requirements for electrical machines are continually advancing in terms of power density and efficiency. The use of hairpin windings is a relatively new development that is gaining increasing attention due to its benefits on electromagnetic and thermal performance.

This white paper explores the advantages and disadvantages of hairpin windings, how this type of winding can be modelled in Motor-CAD, and the influence of winding layers on AC and DC losses.
